Back Again!
Finally I found the time to work on some projects again. Life gets in the way sometimes, y'know.
First up is Volume 2 of POP Kicks' compilation, assembling the finest in POP right now (from a rather personal point of view), PERFECTION.
My favourite music at this time and because eventually I stopped following all the Top 40-60-100, whatever, there might very well be some bands and songs that you might not know of - but definitely should - as a fellow pop maniac. So check it out and love the music. And if not, there's always good ol' DEL.
Let me share a little more detail on some of the tracks that I really want to just get out there
and be as infectious to everyone as they were to me.
Special notice should be taken of a previously unreleased remix of "Your Body Is A Machine" from THE GOOD NATURED. The original version is slightly more sinister and not as dynamic as the exquisit Get People Remix, which is managing to stay reverberantly sombre somewhere afloat on one of the dark basses and synths that loom in the background.
Another absolutely brilliant tune is "A New Word To Say" by british band BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT (weird name by the way). The original version comes along a lot more popish, for my own taste a teensy weensy, little toooo much pop, though. But I instantly loved the James Yuill Remix, it catches on right from a somewhat hypnotic intro into a mellow but bass-driven coolness of a song. Just today I noticed over again how it still is stuck in my head, playing along ...
The original as well as the James Yuill Remix (plus another remix, I think) are available free to load from the bands' (but it is just one guy, right?!) website w w w brightlightx2 com (fill the blanks with dots when copying it into your browser and delete the blanks between the 'w's) - you must register for getting the tracks, though.
Sort-of Boyband HOT CHELLE RAE's debut single "Bleed", which I heard somewhere on the innernezs and finding myself unable to forget the haunting chorus of, is a born winner. It's a clever produced Class A pop ballad, and I bet it'll be on top of at least 1 global music chart. I guess teenage girls will cry and woo the 4 boys way up the charts and out there.
By the way, are they casted?! Or did their record label make them have a complete makeover, as the 4 are looking like designed in categories to match the current teen's taste.
MIKE POSNER, who was also featured on PERFECTION Vol. 1, has finally made it to the well deserved spotlight, and I think he's gonna stay there for some time.
His first official album "31 Minutes To Take Off" is not as good and less inventive than the 2 albums(mixtapes) he posted for free on his own website. If you have the chance, compare them by downloading "One Foot Out The Door" and "Matter Of Time" from Mike's website, w w w mikeposner com.
The follow-up to his charter "Cooler Than Me", "Please Don't Go", catches on as easy as the first and is great radio material.
One of the big hits this summer is definitely PLAN B's "She Said" taken from the concept album "The Defamation of Strickland Banks", which tells the story of alter ego Strickland Banks who's framed for murder. Because all tracks are alike, you can get tired to listen to it and B's high notes aiming (not always succeeding, though) voice started to annoy me at some point. When listening to single tracks it's not like that at all, I especially love the tracks "Prayin'" and "Welcome To Hell".
Another brand new group that's definitely worth keeping an eye on is GRAVITONAS from Sweden. Founded by Alexander Bard, best known for his former band ARMY OF LOVERS, it promises some really great POP tunes in the near future when they'll drop their debut album. "Kites", their debut single, is already on its way to become a Euro-wide
smash hit.
Rounding up this mix are some well known names, like EMINEM, RIHANNA, SONO, BLACK EYED PEAS, MUSE, KEVIN RUDOLF and others.
And finally I just like to add that it is feeling universally awesome that one of my newest POP heroes, HURTS, are taking off real quick to their (already rightfully achieved by writing the instant classic "Wonderful Life") Top Position in POP History.
The material that was previously available on the internet (demos? most likely) sounded very promising, throwing in a heavy 80's feel which was unexpectedly working pretty well for the whole thing as it is with their official first international single "Better Than Love". Quite a stunner it is, taking you instantly.
So now I'll stop blabbing and hope everyone enjoys this tracks as much as I do.
